Heroics
The Newsletter of the Eastern Pennsylvania Gaming Society
November 2009

Phillies Logo Well, the Phillies weren't able to defend their title against the $200 million juggernaut from New York.  However they still looked very good and there's reason to hope they'll be back for the Fall Classic in 2010...

Extended mall hours aside, December is a quiet month for gaming, as there isn't many gaming conventions going on.  As this newsletter is already several hours late, I don't have the time to list many upcoming conventions.  I intend to expand this list next month.

Anyway, here's to hoping everyone has a great holiday season.  Game on!

-Ken

EPGS Members Wins Two EuroQuest Events
EuroQuest set an attendance record with 270 attendees at this year's event.  A few EPGS members made the trip down to Maryland, including Doug Faust, who won the Race for the Galaxy tournament and Eric Freeman, winner of this year's Wild Card event.   Also notable was Dave Bohnenberger's second place finish in Power Grid.  Alex Bove was unable to recapture the Harold Siegelman trophy, setting for a tie for third place six points behind newcomer Sceadeau D'Tela from North Carolina.

As I did not attend the event myself, I'm not sure if anyone other EPGS members had a notable finish in any of the events.  Please email me if there's anything I missed.

EPGS Member Ties For First at National Chess Congress
The 40th Annual Chess Congress took place over the Thankgiving Weekend in center city Philadelphia.  Ken Horan, your humble newsletter editor, competed in the "Under 1800" section.  Four wins and a draw along with a bye for one of the rounds allowed me to finish in a tie for first place with three other players.  I'd also like to add that I proudly wore my "Got Games?" EPGS t-shirt for the games on Saturday.
