Club News:

Raffle Winners

There were some big winners as Steve Esposito won $72 in the April raffle and A&A Champ Lee Kendter won $61 in the May raffle. The winner gets half the money collected for the raffle, with the other half going into the club treasury. Tickets may be purchased from the club treasurer when dues are collected or at any time before the drawing. Tickets cost $2 apiece, $4 for three, or $6 for five. A real bargain!

Club Finances and Attendance

49 paying members and 2 visitors attended the April meeting. $245 in dues was collected. In addition, the raffle added $66 dollars to the treasury and $1 was generated from a book sale. Club expenses were $178.20 for room rental and $24.13 for newsletter publication. The club cash balance was up $109.67 to $1439.29 41 paying members and 1 visitor attended the May meeting. $200 in dues and $20 in pre-paid dues was collected. In addition, the raffle added $55 to the treasury and there was $3.03 in miscellaneous income. No prepaid dues were used, so the prepaid dues balance increased to $456. The only club expense was $178.20 for room rental. The club cash balance was up $99.83 to a total of $1539.12

Extra Meetings to be Held

Due to popular demand, EPGS is holding a series of extra meetings for those members who just can't get enough of a good thing. These meetings take place in the Community Room on the second floor of the Oxford Valley Mall. Here's the schedule:

August 4th, 2001
November 3rd, 2001

$2 dues are collected from current members to cover room rental. New recruits may attend free of charge. The February 3rd and May 5th meetings were a smashing success! So, come on out and bring your friends!

EPGS Mailing List

For nearly a year now, EPGS has had a mailing list maintained by Jerry Smolens. There has been little traffic on this list, mainly because there are only 23 members so far. Since this notice has appeared in the last four newsletters, I realize that lack of information is not the problem. I assume people are afraid to sign up for fear of receiving "junk" email. Please rest assured that every post on the list is game related. Perhaps not as informative or spectacularly well-written as this newsletter, but worth reading nonetheless.

The concept is simple. When a member sends a message to epgs@yahoogroups.com, the message is sent to all members of the list. If traffic on this list should become considerable, there is also an option to receive the posts once a day in a "digest" format.

This list should help members to organize games either at meetings or other times; arrange rides to and from meetings, conventions or tournaments; to buy or sell games; or to just talk about games.

To subscribe to the list, go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/epgs or simply send an email to: epgs-subscribe@yahoogroups.com.

Note: due to the process of "the big fish swallowing the little fish", Internet style, this group has changed hosts twice. You may be required to start a Yahoo account to use the web features. They have included a "Conversion Wizard" to facilitate this process.

Hope to meet you online soon!

EPGS Shirts

EPGS is once again considering doing shirts. Two styles have been mentioned as possibilities: Polo shirts, and T-shirts. Polo Shirts would likely feature just the EPGS logo and name; T-Shirts would likely have some design(s) related to the various kinds of games members play at the club.

We need YOUR input on what you might be interested in doing. Contact Steve Cameron at stevegamer@snip.net

Games People Played

This is one the member's favorite features - a list of nearly every game played at the two most recent meetings!

April 2001 Meeting:

2038 (TimJim) Advanced Squad Leader (AH) Alladin's Dragons (Rio Grande) Arena of Death (Tom List) Axis and Allies - Pacific (AH/Hasbro) Battleline (GMT) Call My Bluff (FX Schmidt) Chess (?) Cosmic Encounter (AH/Hasbro) Die Macher (Hans im Gluck) Drakon (Fantasy Flight) Edson's Ridge (Gamefix) Empires of the Ancient World (Warfrog) Evo (Descartes/Eurogames) India Rails (Mayfair) Knights (Rio Grande) Metro (Queen) Panzergruppe Gudarian (AH) Paths of Glory (GMT) Princes of Florence (Rio Grande) Settlers of Catan (Mayfair) Short Lines (Bob Stribula) Taj Mahal (Rio Grande) Tigers in the Mist (GMT)

Miniatures: We tried the new WW2 micro armor rules that have recently been released by GHQ. We played a 1941 meeting engagement between mixed Russian and German forces. The Germans made strong attacks on both villages and secured footholds in both but the appearance of some T-34's and a KV-1 stalled any further advances. The rules worked well and we'll be playing them again. In the evening, we played a Marlborough game using a conversion of "Volley and Bayonet" to 18th century warfare. The French attacked an Anglo-Dutch army and were beaten back by the superior firepower of the British infantry. The British then counter-attacked and smashed the remnants of the French.

May 2001 Meeting:

6 Nimmt (Amigo) Alexander (AH) Axis and Allies - Pacific (AH/Hasbro) Call My Bluff (FX Schmidt) Carcassonne (Rio Grande) Dune (AH) El Grande (Hans Im Gluck) Eurorails (Mayfair) Expedition (Queen) Globetrotters and Hitmen (Tom Parauda) Mag Blast (Fantasy Flight) Medina (Rio Grande) Mississippi Queen (Rio Grande) Ohne Furcht und Adel - AKA "Citadels" (Hans Im Gluck) Pokemon (WOC) Princes of Florence (Rio Grande) Settlers of Catan (Mayfair) Show Manager (Queen) SPQR (GMT) Taj Mahal (Rio Grande) Tikal (Rio Grande) Twilight's Last Gleaming (S&T) Vinci (Descartes/Eurogames) Way Out West (Warfrog) We The People (AH)

Miniatures: We again played a Marlborough game using "Volley and Bayonet". This time the Anglo-Dutch forces attacked the French. The Scottish contingent of the Anglo-Dutch was roughly handled and failed its morale but the British infantry proved too much for the French and forced a breakthrough in the center. In the evening we playtested a scenario for the next Blue Sky release. British Defiants trying to get back to England were intercepted by Bf-109's. Some Hurricanes attempted to rescue the outclassed Defiants but eight of the British planes were shot down.
