Heroics Changes

This is the last issue of Heroics that will appear in print format. From now on, Heroics will only be published in electronically. If you currently receive the print edition and don’t want to miss out on exciting club news, contact one of the EPGS officers and give us your email address. If you don’t have an email address, you can still read each exciting issue on the website at http://www.epgs.org.
Note that free internet access is available to all at your local public library.

Another change is that starting April 2002, Heroics will become a monthly publication. This will make Heroics much more current and therefore more useful as The Voice of EPGS. Furthermore, the freedom from space constraints gained from the all-electronic format will give club members more leeway in what they can submit for inclusion. Classified ads of all kinds are welcome, as long as they are gaming-related. If you have games you’d like to sell or buy, or if you need a ride to a convention, of if you are looking for opponents, feel free to send a note to one of the editors for inclusion. And remember: strategy articles, after-action reports, and game reviews are always welcome and greatly appreciated.

Blair Mini-Con

This note is meant to give you a heads up for an extended weekend of board gaming at Blair Academy, a repeat performance of last year's event with a few small differences. Last year's event was a good time—relaxed and amiable, except when we played "The Big Baby" Game (Europe 1945-200?). Fun, but things got intense. We more or less had the campus
to ourselves, and the 15-20 guys who played over the weekend--13 of whom stayed in the dorm--got along well and played a wide variety of games.
The games tended towards the German and European types, including some AH multi-player titles and a few 'lighter' military games. However, the format is open session gaming, so whatever folk bring and want to play
is fair game. I would love to have even more EPGS'ers than last year, as I think you'll find the atmosphere comfortable (even communal!), the gaming fun, and the price very reasonable. And I guarantee you won't find your car floating down stream when you leave. Of course, that's the only guarantee my insurance will allow me to make at this time....

While you may find it's early for you to commit to coming, feel free to make a note of it on your calendar if you are at all interested. Please
let me know if you can come when you feel you can make a firmish commitment. No RSVP's or apologies necessary if you can't come, although a note is always appreciated. Please feel free to pass this info along to others whom you feel may be interested. All are welcome.

Event: Blair Mini-Con

Place: Blair Academy, Blairstown, NJ (NW Jersey, 10 miles east of
Delaware Water Gap)

Dates: June 20-23, 2002 (Note Change: last year was in August)

Times: Thursday 7 p.m. until Sunday 5 p.m. (Another Change: we can begin
on Thursday)

Costs: (Includes Rooming in Dorm and Use of Facilities)

1 night: $55 per person

2 nights: $65 per person

3 nights: $70 per person

Day Trippers: Free

Considerations: Single Beds Only; very nice Dormitory (First 20 commitments get own room); Air Conditioned Rooms.

There are various food options locally : delis, diner, A&P, inexpensive restaurants

Gaming Facilities are spacious and excellent; plenty of options on campus for gaming areas. A beautiful campus in a nice part of Jersey. A
good area for hiking and other outdoor activities for those interested.

I've expanded the weekend to three nights only because I'm here anyway (I live here), and since the costs of an extra night are negligible, why not abuse the privilege? Of course, getting free for an extended weekend is more difficult for interested gamers, but it doesn't hurt to offer
that option. Just let me know what nights are good for you. And don't worry, no down payment is required. I'm really just hoping to get enough general feedback to justify keeping the dorm(s) free for that weekend on the Blair calendar. I hope we can all take advantage of what I see as a good opportunity at a reasonable price. If you agree, let me know!

Hope to hear from many of you--whenever. Happy Holidays.

2002 STATE OF THE CLUB (PA)

From Bob Hranek, Totalitarian President

EPGS is a strong gaming club and provides a great place to meet with friends each month and play your favorite games. Most of you probably haven’t heard yet that we will be moving all EPGS meetings to Oxford Valley Mall as of April. Its spacious 2365 ft2 Community room only costs $10 per use, but since we’re now required to have Liability Insurance, the current $2 per month dues at Oxford Valley will continue there. This mall has an excellent food court on its upper level as well, the only downside of this move is that it’s a little bit further to drive. Our 2002 dates have been reserved at Oxford Valley, but we worry about being bumped by the Mall if they should need that room.

Always read your EPGS emails and check www.EPGS.org for the latest information.

As I hand over the money and take up the rei(g)ns of EPGS, I realize I don’t know what each of you wants from the club. If you want EPGS to stay as it is or change it into something else, now is your time to be heard. Typically, there is very little feedback from requests like this, but that just makes the voices of you that do respond that much stronger. I’ve identified my top-ten issues that face EPGS as we contemplate moving to other locations. PLEASE take 5 MINUTES to answer this quick survey, and/or bring up entirely new issues as you see fit. Either fill out the double-sided form I’ll be distributing at the meetings, or feel free to send email responses to my work email (Robert.J.Hranek@LMCO.com) since Comcast’s change of my previous @home address isn’t working yet. I’ll try to accommodate as many of your wishes over the next year as I can. I will keep individual responses confidential, and submit the results by the May Heroics.
